Dangote Refinery Expands Free Fuel Delivery Programme to Imo, 3 Other States

Motorists and businesses in Imo State may see some relief in petroleum distribution costs following the expansion of Dangote Refinery’s free petroleum-product delivery programme to the state.

Imo is among four new states added to the initiative, alongside Anambra, Kano and Nasarawa, bringing the total number of states covered by the programme to 14.

The initiative is designed to reduce the cost of transporting petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery to different parts of Nigeria.

The expansion comes as Nigerians continue to grapple with high transportation costs and rising living expenses, with fuel prices remaining a major factor affecting the cost of goods and services.

However, the expansion of free delivery does not automatically mean motorists will see lower petrol prices at filling stations.

The key question is whether the savings from reduced transportation and distribution costs will be passed on to consumers through lower or more stable pump prices.

For motorists in Imo and the other newly covered states, the impact of the programme will ultimately depend on how marketers and other players in the downstream petroleum sector reflect the savings in retail prices.

The Dangote Refinery’s expansion of the programme is therefore expected to be closely watched as the government and private sector continue efforts to reduce the cost of petroleum distribution across the country.
