
Afrobeats star Davido has backed the idea of couples keeping separate bank accounts, saying both partners should have personal finances to protect themselves against unexpected changes in life.
The singer shared his views during an appearance on The Uncut Podcast, where he was asked whether women should maintain secret bank accounts without their partners knowing. Davido said he saw nothing wrong with the practice and believed the same principle should apply to men.
He said he would not be angry if his wife had a separate account, arguing that personal finances can provide security when circumstances change.
“Yeah, I think it’s good. I actually think they should; you never know. If I ever found out that my wife had a secret bank account, I’d not be angry; I think everybody should have their own.”
Davido stressed that financial independence should not be viewed as something meant only for women. He argued that both partners should have access to money they can manage independently, even while sharing financial responsibilities within a relationship.
The singer’s position comes amid wider conversations about financial transparency, trust and independence among married couples and partners. While he endorsed personal accounts, his comments focused on having individual financial security rather than keeping money from a partner for deceptive reasons.
Davido maintained that nobody can predict what the future may bring, making it important for individuals to have some financial resources of their own.
