Fear over worsening insecurity in Nigeria is now spilling into the entertainment industry, with some of the country’s biggest celebrities openly calling for urgent action over rising kidnappings and violent attacks.
Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Davido, singer Tiwa Savage and comedian AY Makun are among public figures who have expressed concern as reports of abductions and insecurity continue to dominate headlines across several states.
Davido triggered widespread reactions after sharing an emotional message on X, where he admitted that entertainers have not done enough to speak against the growing violence affecting ordinary Nigerians.
“I’m weak. God, please take control; we can’t continue like this,” the singer wrote while sympathising with victims and families affected by recent attacks.
The award-winning artiste also challenged celebrities, including himself, to stop remaining silent about the crisis, insisting that influential figures must begin using their platforms to demand accountability and change.
“We entertainers … including me, we need to speak up … it’s too much injustice going on,” he added.
Davido’s comments quickly sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians agreeing that celebrities and other public figures should become more vocal on national issues beyond entertainment and social media trends.
Reacting through her Instagram story, Tiwa Savage revealed that she was disturbed after learning more details about a recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State. According to her, the situation has not received the level of public attention it deserves.
“This kidnapping incident that happened in Oyo State… the issue is not trending enough as it should,” the singer stated after reaching out to people familiar with the case.
The reactions come amid growing public anxiety over insecurity in different parts of the country, including reports of kidnappings, terrorist attacks and violent crimes that have left many communities living in fear.
Many Nigerians on social media have also continued to question the silence of influential entertainers and celebrities on major national issues, especially security, governance and economic hardship affecting millions across the country
