Defence Headquarters Records 367 Attacks Across Nigeria in September

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the Nigerian military recorded 367 attacks across various theatres of operation in September 2026, with Operation Enduring Peace recording the highest number of incidents.

The breakdown released by the military showed that Operation Enduring Peace recorded 147 attacks, followed by Operation Fansan Yamma with 115 and Operation Whirl Stroke with 55.

Operation Hadin Kai recorded 33 attacks, while Operation Savannah Shield recorded 13 and Operation Udo Ka recorded four. Operation Delta Safe recorded no attacks during the month.

Speaking on the military’s September operations on Wednesday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, said troops responded to the attacks with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres, successfully countering the threats.

Onoja said the Armed Forces of Nigeria also neutralised 52 terrorists and criminals, arrested 350 suspects, rescued 655 kidnapped civilians and facilitated the surrender of 75 insurgents during the month.

Troops also recovered 52 arms and 2,335 rounds of ammunition, dismantled eight illegal refining sites and recovered more than 304,822 litres of stolen petroleum products, according to the Defence Headquarters.

Looking at the third quarter of 2026, Onoja said the military neutralised 554 terrorists and criminals and arrested 1,333 others, while 1,736 kidnapped civilians were rescued and 333 insurgents surrendered.

The military also recovered 244 arms and 8,160 rounds of ammunition, dismantled 104 illegal refining sites and recovered 1.61 million litres of stolen petroleum products during the quarter.

Onoja said the figures reflected the military’s operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and secessionist violence across the country, adding that the Armed Forces remained focused on creating a safer environment nationwide.
