Dr. Reginald Uchenna Amadi, an Imo State governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged to prioritise job creation, rural road development, security and poverty reduction if elected governor in 2027.
Amadi made the remarks during a reception organised in his honour at Emekuku Mission High School in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State. Despite heavy rainfall that lasted several hours, the event attracted a large crowd of supporters, community leaders and political associates.
The businessman, who hails from Ezeluike Emekuku, is pursuing his governorship ambition under the political structure known as REGIM 2027. He expressed appreciation for the reception, describing the show of support as a source of joy and encouragement, while lamenting the levels of poverty and insecurity affecting Imo State and Nigeria.
Amadi commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for what he described as significant achievements in infrastructure and security under the Shared Prosperity administration. However, he argued that more work was needed to address the state’s socioeconomic challenges and improve the living conditions of residents.
According to the aspirant, his decision to join the governorship race was motivated by a desire to contribute to the development of Imo State rather than personal financial gain.
“The decision to join in the race is borne out of patriotic desire to rebuild Imo State and Nigeria at large,” Amadi said, adding that the state needed further improvements in infrastructure and other key sectors.
He identified rural road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance, improved security, poverty reduction and employment opportunities as some of the major areas requiring attention. He also stressed that the quality and credibility of a candidate should matter more than political affiliation when voters make their choice.
“The issue is not about political party, the fundamental issue is an individual who can perform,” he said, maintaining that job creation would be central to his proposed agenda. He added that he was not desperate to become governor and would support the emergence of the best candidate for the state.
Earlier, the Director-General of REGIM 2027, Hon. Prince Eric, described Amadi as a visionary individual committed to the development of Imo State. He called for cooperation and support from residents as the group pursues its political objective.
Other speakers, including Hon. Mrs. Josephine Nnorom, popularly known as Madam So So So, and HRH Eze Jones Uzoka, commended Amadi for entering the race and urged him to remain committed to his ambition. They also praised his reported philanthropic activities, particularly those focused on youth and women’s empowerment.
Hon. Maxwell Nlebadim, who identified himself as chairman of the chairmen representing the 10 villages in Emekuku, described Amadi as a respected son of the community. He said the community supported his ambition and explained that the large turnout reflected the reception organisers’ support for his political journey.
Amadi’s declaration adds to the growing political activity ahead of the 2027 Imo State governorship election. His next challenge will be to translate the support expressed at the reception into a broader political structure capable of competing within the APC and across the state
