D’Tigress Unveil 12-Player Squad for 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup

D’Tigress head coach Rena Wakama has named the 12 players who will represent Nigeria at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

Captain Amy Okonkwo will lead a squad that combines experienced campaigners with emerging talents as the African champions prepare for their third appearance at the global tournament.

The roster includes Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara, who were both part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 World Cup. Their return means the pair will become the only Nigerian players to feature at two FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cups.

D’Tigress arrived in Berlin on Wednesday ahead of the tournament, which runs from September 4 to 13. Nigeria has been placed in Group B alongside Hungary, South Korea and France.

Wakama’s team will begin its campaign against South Korea on Friday, September 4, at the Berlin Arena. They will face Hungary the following day at the Max-Schmeling-Halle before completing the group stage against France at the Berlin Arena on Monday, September 7.

Nigeria will draw confidence from its historic performance at the 2018 edition, when D’Tigress became the first African team to advance to the quarter-finals. The team will now aim to build on that achievement and make another strong impact on the world stage.
