Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Madumere Urges Youths to Embrace Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Former Imo State Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere has called on Nigerian youths to acquire relevant skills, embrace education, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation to remain competitive in a changing economy.

Madumere, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, said young people remain central to building a sustainable and inclusive society. He made the call while celebrating youths in Owerri Zone, Imo State and across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day.

The former deputy governor described youths as the driving force behind progressive societies, stressing that Imo State could not achieve meaningful development without deliberate investment in its young population.

The American-trained technocrat also urged political leaders and other stakeholders to move beyond celebrating young people and create practical opportunities for their participation in governance, leadership and economic development.

Madumere said his commitment to youth development predates his time in public office and was not driven by political considerations. He said his long-standing belief was that young people could lead, create and transform society when given the right opportunities and environment.

“I have always been a youth person. My commitment to young people did not begin when I became Deputy Governor, nor is it tied to any political position,” Madumere said. He added that public office gave him a wider platform to demonstrate his belief in the capacity of young people to achieve extraordinary results.

He said the future of Imo State should be deliberately shaped around young people who are properly equipped and empowered to contribute to governance and economic growth. Madumere urged youths in Owerri Zone and across the state not to see themselves merely as followers or electoral numbers, but as partners and future leaders.

The former deputy governor also encouraged young people to remain hopeful and support what he described as a fresh approach to representation in the National Assembly. He congratulated youths across Imo East on International Youth Day and expressed optimism that “a new Owerri Zone is possible.”
