Fire Guts Electronics Section of Justrite Superstore in Lagos, Solar Inverter Suspected

A major fire broke out on Thursday morning at a Justrite Superstore in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos, destroying the supermarket’s electronics section before emergency responders brought the blaze under control.

The incident occurred on the second floor of the commercial building located along Akowonjo Road, near Jimoh Bus Stop. Despite the extensive damage to property, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received a distress call at approximately 8:15 a.m. and mobilised firefighters from the Abesan and Agege Fire Stations, who arrived at the scene by 8:28 a.m.

Firefighters immediately launched coordinated operations, deploying equipment to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the supermarket or nearby buildings.

According to the agency, the blaze was successfully extinguished, while recovery and mop-up operations continued after the fire was brought under control.

“The fire has been put out as recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap,” the Fire Service said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have originated from an alternative power source, with officials pointing to a solar inverter system as the likely cause. However, a full investigation is expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that no casualties were recorded, commending the swift response of firefighters in containing the blaze and preventing further damage.
