Former Imo APC Chairman Ebere Urges Continuity for Uzodimma Administration

Former Imo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), MacDonald Ebere, has called for continuity in the state, urging the party to highlight what he described as the achievements of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration ahead of the next election.

Ebere, who is also the chairman of the board of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos, made the call during an interview in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the Imo APC must present a convincing case to voters by focusing on the administration’s record, arguing that elections should go beyond simply replacing one government with another.

According to Ebere, voters should consider which policies and programmes should continue and what should follow after the current administration.

He recalled that when Uzodimma assumed office in January 2020, Imo was facing serious financial and administrative challenges. Ebere claimed the state’s debt stock was above N280 billion, while monthly internally generated revenue was below N400 million.

“The 3R Government of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery was, therefore, not politics. It was a vehicle to save Imo,” Ebere said.

The former APC chairman said the administration’s reported progress should not be interrupted after six years, pointing to infrastructure as one of the areas where he believes significant changes have been recorded.

He claimed that more than 150 roads have been delivered across the Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones, including the Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Okigwe, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia, Toronto-Orji, MCC-Toronto-Uratta and Orlu-Nkume-Umuowa corridors.

Ebere also claimed that the state’s monthly IGR has risen from about N400 million to more than N5 billion, while its debt has fallen from over N280 billion to below N90 billion. He further cited the Orashi Power Plant and the Light-up Imo initiative as examples of projects he said were improving electricity supply and supporting the state’s industrialisation plans.

The claims form part of Ebere’s argument for continuity, with the former APC chairman saying Imo needs professional governance and sustained implementation of ongoing programmes beyond the current administration.
