Fubara Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC During Rivers Hospital Inspection

Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed rumours suggesting he is planning to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he remains fully committed to the ruling party despite growing political speculation in Rivers State.

The Rivers governor made the clarification on Wednesday while inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, which his administration has converted into a general hospital.

Fubara said reports circulating across social media platforms alleging he was distancing himself from the APC were false and misleading.

“I’m a member of the All Progressives Congress, and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their personal interpretation to present me wrongly. I have not gone anywhere. I remain a member of the APC,” the governor stated.

His comments come amid rising political tension and rumours surrounding alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, especially following reports that some of his loyalists failed to scale the APC screening process in Rivers State.

Beyond the political clarification, Fubara also used the inspection visit to explain why his administration decided to remodel the psychiatric hospital into a fully functioning general hospital.

According to him, the decision followed concerns over poor access to healthcare services for residents in Rumuigbo and surrounding communities.

The governor noted that many residents had to depend largely on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, which he described as too distant and overstretched for nearby communities.

He said establishing a closer and more accessible healthcare facility became necessary to improve medical services and emergency response within the area.

Fubara expressed satisfaction with the completion of the project, describing it as another fulfilled promise by his administration to prioritise people-focused development.

He added that the hospital upgrade reflects his government’s commitment to projects that directly improve the welfare and quality of life of Rivers residents.
