Galadima: Only God, Tinubu Know What Will Happen in 2027

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has said only God and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu know what will happen in the 2027 presidential election.

Galadima made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC’s preparations for the election and the party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Asked whether he expected the 2027 election to be free and fair, Galadima expressed concern about developments ahead of the poll and alleged that opposition figures had faced coordinated attacks.

“If you are dealing with criminals and fraudsters like these ones we have, you can’t be sure of anything,” he said.

“Only God and Tinubu know what will happen to this election.”

Galadima, however, expressed confidence in the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, saying the two politicians would win if the election was conducted freely, fairly and transparently. “Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government and take it away from them,” he said.

He said he currently chairs the coordinating strategic committee for the presidential candidate and his running mate, adding that the committee was working to harmonise the political blueprints of Obi and Kwankwaso.

Galadima described the pair as a single ticket for Nigeria and said the proposed administration would focus on national unity, public confidence in government and security. He referred to the combination as a “healing ticket,” saying the two politicians complemented each other.

The NDC chieftain also questioned political engagements involving Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the opposition was uncertain about the purpose of such interactions. He further criticised academics who had publicly declared support for Tinubu, arguing that they should not subsequently be recruited to serve in the election.

On the opposition’s strategy, Galadima said the NDC would not necessarily depend on producing one joint candidate for all opposition parties, arguing that the political landscape had moved beyond the stage where legally separate parties could field a single candidate.

The NDC has already identified Obi as its presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate, with the party moving to inaugurate its presidential campaign council.
