Guinea-Bissau Warns Against Complacency After 3-0 Win Over Nigeria

Guinea-Bissau forward Beto has urged his teammates to maintain their focus after the Djurtus secured a 3-0 victory over Nigeria in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Guinea-Bissau produced a commanding performance against the Super Eagles at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau, extending their perfect start to the qualifying campaign.

Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló scored for the hosts as Guinea-Bissau claimed all three points against the three-time African champions.

The result followed Guinea-Bissau’s opening 2-0 win over Tanzania, leaving the team with two victories from two matches in the qualifying campaign.

Speaking after the match, Beto said the team must build on its strong start while remaining focused on the matches ahead.

“There are still several games to be played. Therefore, we need to continue playing well and winning in order to achieve our goals,” the 28-year-old said, according to O Democrata.

Beto also warned his teammates against becoming complacent after the impressive result, noting that Guinea-Bissau will face Nigeria again later in the qualifying campaign.

The return fixture is scheduled to take place in Uyo in March 2027, giving the Super Eagles an opportunity to respond to their heavy defeat.

For Guinea-Bissau, the immediate focus will be on maintaining their unbeaten run and securing the results needed to strengthen their position in the qualification race.

The Djurtus will therefore enter their next fixtures with confidence, but Beto’s message was clear: the team must continue working and avoid allowing the victory over Nigeria to affect its concentration.
