Fear has gripped residents of Odo-Ore in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed men stormed the community in a late-night attack, abducting at least five people and firing shots indiscriminately.
The attackers, reportedly about ten in number, invaded the town under the cover of darkness and moved directly to targeted locations, suggesting prior knowledge of their victims’ whereabouts.
One of those kidnapped was identified as Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, a well-known politician and school proprietor, who was taken from his residence during the raid.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants forced their way into his compound around 11 p.m., breaking into the house after damaging the main entrance before whisking him away at gunpoint.
A resident who spoke anonymously alleged that informants within the community may have played a role in the attack, claiming the gunmen appeared to have precise information about their target’s home.
The source said the attackers “went straight” to the victim’s residence, raising concerns about possible internal collaboration in the operation.
In total, five residents were reportedly abducted as the gunmen escaped the community without resistance.
Residents also expressed concern over the absence of a police station or permanent security presence in Odo-Ore, a gap they say has left the area vulnerable to repeated attacks.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in rural communities across parts of Kwara State, where kidnappings for ransom have continued to rise in recent months.
