Ibadan Politics Deepens as Ladoja’s Son Alleges 2027 Gubernatorial Lobbying Amid Makinde Impeachment Claims

Political tensions in Oyo State have escalated following fresh allegations from Shola, son of Ibadan high chief Rashidi Ladoja, who claims he was once approached for political support ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

In a series of posts on X, Shola alleged that Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, personally appealed to him to help secure an audience with his father in a bid to garner backing for his alleged gubernatorial ambition.

He claimed he is now prepared to release what he described as “records of conversations” relating to the discussions, insisting his earlier post was misunderstood as referring to financial transactions.

“My recent tweet was deleted because I realized a lot of people thought I meant a payment receipt. No. I meant receipt of our conversations,” he wrote.

Shola further alleged that Ogundoyin had sought his assistance on March 25 to facilitate a meeting with his father, saying he was initially reluctant to get involved in the matter.

The claims come amid rising political tension in the state, particularly surrounding allegations of an alleged impeachment plot against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde — accusations that have sparked a wave of denials and counterclaims among key political figures.

Earlier reports also linked the controversy to statements involving Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, who alleged he was pressured in connection with the purported impeachment plan. Those claims have since been publicly denied by former First Lady Florence Ajimobi.

The unfolding dispute has also drawn in former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who alleged that there were plans to politically target the Olubadan stool — an allegation Governor Makinde has firmly rejected.

As competing narratives continue to emerge, the political atmosphere in Oyo State remains highly charged, with stakeholders trading accusations across party and institutional lines.
