INEC Opens Media Accreditation Portal for September 2026 Rerun Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online accreditation portal for media organisations seeking to cover the September 2026 rerun elections in selected constituencies across Nigeria.

The commission announced that accreditation commenced on Monday, August 24, 2026, through the INEC Media Accreditation Portal (IMAP).

The rerun elections will affect Sakwa State Constituency in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

Media organisations planning to deploy journalists and other personnel to cover the elections are required to submit their applications through the portal.

INEC said the accreditation window would close at midnight on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, warning that the deadline would not be extended.

The commission stressed that the process would be conducted strictly online, with no provision for manual applications.

It also warned media organisations against late submissions, noting that the portal would automatically close once the deadline expires.

According to INEC, accreditation will be limited to credible and duly registered media organisations.

“Media organisations are advised to complete their applications and nominations well before the deadline,” the commission said.

INEC urged interested organisations to ensure that all required information and supporting documents are properly uploaded before the portal closes.
