KAROTA Hands Recovered Mini Truck to Kano Police After Suspected Theft Attempt

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency, KAROTA, has handed over a suspected stolen mini truck, popularly known as “Kurkura,” to the Jakara Division of the Kano State Police Command for further investigation.

The vehicle was recovered during a night patrol on Monday after KAROTA personnel reportedly found people attempting to tow it away at about 4am.

According to the agency, the driver of the towing vehicle fled when the patrol team intervened, cutting the rope attached to the mini truck and leaving another suspect behind.

The patrol team, led by the officer in charge of night operations, General Abubakar H. Muhammad, questioned the remaining suspect about why the vehicle was being towed at such an unusual hour.

KAROTA said the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation before also fleeing the scene and abandoning the mini truck.

The agency subsequently moved the vehicle to its headquarters for safekeeping after confirming that a police report had been filed over its disappearance on September 24, 2026.

At the handover ceremony, KAROTA Managing Director Faisal Mahmud Kabir, represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Mahmud M. Haido, commended the patrol team for recovering the vehicle.

Haido said the personnel remained committed to their duties despite an alleged attempt by the driver of the towing vehicle to offer them gratification.

He urged KAROTA officers to maintain discipline and integrity while carrying out their responsibilities and assured them of continued management support.

Kabir also pledged to provide personnel with the equipment and facilities needed to improve their operations.

The Kano State Chairman of the Mini Truck Drivers Association, Sani Abdulladif Kofar Na’isa, praised the patrol team for recovering the vehicle and supporting efforts to protect commercial transport operators.

The mini truck will be released to its owner after the police complete the necessary procedures.
