Kwara PDP Appoints Omar Gambari Campaign DG for 2027 Governorship Election

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former governorship aspirant, Omar Bolaji Gambari, as Director-General of its campaign organisation for the 2027 governorship election.

The appointment was unanimously approved at an expanded meeting involving the party’s leadership and its governorship candidate, Bolakale Kawu. The meeting was presided over by the state PDP chairman, Isa Adamu.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, announced the appointment in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday. He said Gambari was selected because of his professional experience, organisational ability, knowledge of Kwara’s political environment and engagement with young people across the state.

According to the PDP, Gambari’s background in international law, finance, entrepreneurship, real estate, agriculture and community development would help him coordinate a campaign organisation involving people from different backgrounds and generations.

Gambari previously contested the PDP governorship ticket before the party adopted Kawu as its consensus candidate in May 2026. The five aspirants, including Gambari, agreed to the consensus arrangement, with the other contenders stepping down in support of Kawu.

Following Kawu’s emergence, Gambari remained active in the party’s political activities. The PDP said his continued involvement, alongside his experience and familiarity with the state’s political landscape, contributed to the decision to appoint him as campaign DG.

The party said the new campaign structure would coordinate its activities across Kwara’s constituencies and different levels of the organisation ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Kawu was formally unveiled as the PDP’s governorship candidate in July, with Reverend Cornelius Fawenu selected as his running mate.
