One person has died and three others sustained serious injuries in a road crash involving a Lexus Jeep 350 on the Coastal Road in Lagos.
The accident occurred on Friday while the vehicle was travelling towards Eko Hotel, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, said the grey Lexus Jeep, with registration number LSD 554 KV, reportedly lost control, crashed into a roadside pole and overturned.
“Initial security reports indicated that the vehicle lost control, violently hit a roadside pole, and then overturned. This resulted in three people suffering serious injuries and one fatality,” Taofiq said.
LASTMA officials monitoring traffic around the Coastal Road quickly responded to the scene, where they secured the area and assisted with emergency response efforts.
The three injured occupants were rescued from the wreckage with the help of Good Samaritans and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical attention, according to LASTMA.
Security personnel from Victoria Island also supported the emergency response, while LASTMA officers cleared the damaged vehicle from the road to prevent further accidents and restore traffic flow.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution while driving.
Bakare-Oki warned that speeding, careless driving and loss of vehicle control could result in serious consequences for motorists and other road users.
He also urged members of the public to report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free line, 3367, to enable a quicker response.
