Lightning Strike Kills Six Children Working on Farm in Adamawa, Two Others Injured

A devastating lightning strike has claimed the lives of six children in Dadiri Tirgali village, Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, leaving the community in mourning and two other minors receiving treatment for injuries.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, while about eight children were reportedly working on a farm in the village. According to reports, a thunderstorm struck the area, and the lightning hit the children, killing six of them instantly.

The two surviving children sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby clinic, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Authorities have yet to release further details on their condition.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves across Ganye, a farming community widely regarded as the food basket of Adamawa State because of its large-scale production of crops, particularly yam.

Reacting to the incident, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Christopher Nathaniel, expressed deep sadness over the loss of the children.

“I received with deep sorrow the heartbreaking news of the tragic thunderstorm that claimed the lives of six innocent children in Dadiri Tirgali village,” he said.

“The loss of innocent young lives has thrown the entire Ganye Chiefdom and Adamawa State into mourning. On behalf of myself, my family, and the great people of the SDP, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Dadiri Tirgali, His Royal Majesty, the Gangwari Ganye, and the entire people of Ganye Local Government Area.”

Residents of the community have also been left grieving as families struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss. The incident adds to a growing list of weather-related tragedies recorded across parts of Nigeria during the rainy season.
