Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has challenged other contenders in the 2027 presidential election to demonstrate the physical energy required to lead Nigeria.

Makinde made the challenge on Thursday while addressing supporters, insisting that the demands of the presidency require a leader with sufficient strength and stamina to tackle the country’s challenges.

In a video circulating online, the governor was seen jumping down from a stage to demonstrate his physical fitness. He subsequently challenged supporters to vote for any rival candidate who could perform a similar feat.

Makinde said he would not make age a central issue in the 2027 presidential campaign, arguing instead that voters should focus on the energy and capacity of those seeking to lead the country.

“I will not make age an issue in this campaign, but I will make it about energy – having energy, being able to stay up late, and having the rigour to deal with the challenges in the country,” he said.

The governor maintained that Nigeria’s numerous challenges require a president capable of handling the demands of the office, including the long hours and sustained effort involved in governance.

He further challenged rival presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, saying: “So, when they bring their own presidential candidate, let him come here and also jump down. If they can do that, vote for them.”

Makinde’s remarks come as political activities and discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum, with candidates and political parties seeking to distinguish themselves ahead of the contest.
