The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has inaugurated its National Campaign Management Committee (NCMC) as the joint ticket begins preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Vice-presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Alhaji Lawal Daura, said the committee would focus on grassroots mobilisation and securing votes across the country.

Daura spoke on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the 2027 National Campaign Management Committee.

With about 100 days remaining before the election, Daura described a “national reset” as necessary to address Nigeria’s challenges.

He said the proposed reset would involve reviewing and changing aspects of the country’s existing political and administrative structures.

“Therefore, the resetting is the only solution so far that can get Nigeria right. And by resetting, it means every other thing that has been configured in Nigeria needs to be looked at, amended, changed, replaced, or whatever,” Daura said.

He also warned against attempts to manipulate the electoral process, saying the campaign organisation was prepared to protect its votes within the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“For those who really want to rig, that they can pull a fast one, well, they have a surprise coming,” he said.

Daura said members of the campaign committee were selected based on their experience and records of delivering results.

He urged the newly inaugurated members to remain focused and committed to the campaign’s objectives.

The APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, charged the committee to work towards delivering the Seyi Makinde and Maman Daura ticket in the 2027 election.

Dantalle acknowledged that disagreements would arise within the coalition but said the ability to resolve such differences peacefully would demonstrate the group’s capacity to manage the country.

“We are bound to encounter challenges, we are bound to disagree with one another, but our ability to manage our internal problems is what Nigeria wants to see,” Dantalle said.

He urged committee members to draw on their different social, religious and political backgrounds and electoral experience at local, state and national levels.

Dantalle also stressed that the inauguration was only the beginning of the campaign process and called for coordination with party structures across the country to translate the committee’s work into electoral results.

“I appeal to all of us and for those who have been inaugurated today. Yes, while I congratulate you for this achievement, it is in itself not a success until that is able to transform into victory for all of us,” he said.

The Director-General of the committee, Felix Hyat, assured the party leadership that the members were committed to the campaign and would work towards achieving its objectives.

Hyat expressed confidence in the presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, particularly regarding his governance record in Oyo State and security-related experience.

He also called for what he described as a rejection of religious and ethnic sentiments in the 2027 election, urging young Nigerians to consider the capacity of candidates when deciding whom to support.

The campaign organisation said its immediate focus would be on building a coordinated national campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general election.
