European football powerhouses Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus are heading to Hong Kong for a high-profile pre-season showdown in August, in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest summer football events in Asia.
The four clubs will feature in the “Hong Kong Football Festival” at the newly built Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat modern arena designed with a retractable roof and air-conditioning to combat the city’s intense summer heat.
Manchester City will open the series on Saturday, August 1, against Inter Milan, while Chelsea are scheduled to face Juventus on Wednesday, August 5, bringing the mini-tournament to a close.
Pep Guardiola’s City side, still locked in a tight Premier League title battle with Arsenal, are expected to field star striker Erling Haaland in the clash against the Italian champions.
Inter Milan arrive in Asia in strong form, sitting at the top of Serie A and chasing what would be their 21st league title. Juventus, meanwhile, are pushing for a Champions League spot under new management after a mixed domestic campaign.
Chelsea’s participation also draws significant attention after a turbulent season. The London club recently lifted the Club World Cup in the United States but has since struggled in the Premier League, raising questions over squad stability and managerial direction ahead of the trip.
Beyond the matches, all four teams will conduct open training sessions, giving fans in Hong Kong a rare chance to see global stars such as Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer, Lautaro Martínez and Dušan Vlahović up close.
The event continues a growing trend of elite European clubs using Asia as a key pre-season destination. Last year, packed stadiums in Hong Kong hosted fixtures involving Liverpool, AC Milan, Tottenham and Arsenal, attracting tens of thousands of supporters.
Organisers say the festival is expected to draw huge crowds again, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a major hub for international football tours in the region.
