MURIC Warns Islamic Organisations to Report Suspicious Donations, Movements After Terror Alert

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged Islamic organisations and Muslims across Nigeria to increase vigilance and immediately report suspicious donations, unfamiliar persons and unusual movements to security agencies.

The warning follows recent terror alerts issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force over planned attacks by suspected terrorists.

MURIC Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, issued the advice in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, urging Muslims and Islamic organisations to take precautionary measures around mosques and religious gatherings.

Akintola specifically advised Islamic organisations to be cautious about unfamiliar faces appearing at their gatherings, saying security concerns require increased vigilance.

“Islamic organizations and individuals must be wary of strange faces at their gatherings,” he said.

He also warned against allowing people carrying bags, particularly backpacks, into mosque premises without proper scrutiny.

According to him, mosques should strengthen their security measures and avoid allowing unknown individuals to stay overnight on their premises.

“Mosques must up their vigilance. Entertain no unknown faces even if their turbans carry the stamps of Saudi Arabia and Iran altogether. No sleep-over should be allowed in the mosques,” Akintola said.

He further urged Muslims to take suspicious luggage found inside or around mosques seriously and report suspicious individuals to the police, even when such persons are regular worshippers.

“Most importantly, dispose of any bag or luggage found inside or around the mosque immediately. They must also report suspicious persons to the police even if such person or persons pray with them in the same mosque,” he added.

MURIC said the precautionary measures were necessary in view of the security alerts, calling on Islamic organisations and individuals to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies to prevent possible attacks.
