The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced fresh appointments into its media team as the party continues to battle growing internal tensions following its controversial nationwide primaries.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party confirmed the appointment of Agada Abuh Theophilus as Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, while Brian Dennis was named Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen the party’s communication strategy and public engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved the appointments of Agada Abuh Theophilus as Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, and Brian Dennis as Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications,” the statement read in part.

The party said it expects both appointees to bring fresh ideas, energy and professional expertise to its growing media operations at a time when the NDC is facing increased scrutiny over its internal affairs.

According to the statement, Theophilus has experience in political campaigns, institutional public relations, corporate branding and digital communications. He is also an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and currently pursuing a PhD focused on election administration and management.

Dennis, on the other hand, was described as a communications analyst with about seven years of experience in political and strategic communications. He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

The appointments come at a sensitive period for the opposition party, which has recently been rocked by allegations of candidate imposition, delayed primary election results and internal disagreements involving supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Despite the crisis, the NDC leadership insists the party remains committed to strengthening its structures and improving communication with supporters nationwide.

Party insiders believe the new appointments are part of a broader effort to regain control of the public narrative and improve engagement across social media and digital platforms as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to intensify.
