Nigeria vs Russia: Super Eagles Seek Redemption After Shock Guinea-Bissau Defeat

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will look to restore confidence when they face Russia in an international friendly on Tuesday evening.

Nigeria head into the encounter under pressure after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The friendly offers the team an opportunity to respond with a stronger performance.

However, the Super Eagles face a difficult test against a Russian side that has been impressive during the current international window.

Russia have already secured victories over Iran and Namibia, scoring eight goals across the two matches. Their attacking form means Nigeria will need to be disciplined defensively while also improving their efficiency in front of goal.

The Nigeria vs Russia friendly will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time and 7pm Moscow time.

The fixture will be the second meeting between Nigeria and Russia. Their previous encounter ended in a 1-1 draw in Moscow in June 2025.

For the Super Eagles, Tuesday’s game is more than just a friendly as they seek to put the Guinea-Bissau setback behind them and build momentum ahead of their competitive fixtures.

Nigerian fans hoping to watch the match can follow the action on AfroSport TV, which is listed as the broadcaster for the African market.
