Nigerian Army Issues Integrity Warning Ahead of 2026 Captain to Major Promotion Exam

The Nigerian Army has moved to tighten standards ahead of its 2026 Captain to Major Promotion Examination, warning officials overseeing the process to uphold strict integrity and professionalism.

Speaking during a high-level briefing in Benin City, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, Peter Malla, made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for compromise in the promotion exercise.

Malla, who chairs the examination panel, stressed that the credibility of the process depends entirely on fairness. He warned panel members against any form of bias, urging them to ensure that every candidate is judged strictly on merit.

According to him, the examination will go beyond routine assessment, focusing on leadership capacity, critical thinking, and the ability of officers to respond to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The Army also directed that the entire process must strictly comply with the Nigerian Army Charter for Promotion Examinations 2022 (Revised), reinforcing its commitment to transparency and standardised evaluation.

Malla expressed confidence in the panel’s ability to deliver a credible exercise, noting that the initiative has the full backing of the Chief of Army Staff.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Adebayo Adegbite, assured that the institution is fully prepared to host the examination without disruptions.

The statement, signed by Felicia Daniel on behalf of the Army’s public relations unit, was published on the official platform of the Nigerian Army on May 3, 2026.
