Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has been fined N500,000 by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over comments he made during a post-match interview.
The young coach was sanctioned after admitting that he made an error in his remarks following Sporting Lagos’ derby draw with Ikorodu City.
Buter was invited to Abuja by the NPFL on Wednesday to explain the comments and clarify his position before the league reached its decision.
The NPFL took his admission into consideration while reviewing the matter, along with his limited experience in the league.
The league subsequently imposed a N500,000 fine on the Sporting Lagos manager as punishment for the offence.
Buter has been given seven working days to pay the fine. Failure to comply within the stipulated period could result in additional sanctions from the NPFL.
The league also issued a wider warning to coaches and club officials against making reckless or inappropriate public statements.
The NPFL advised clubs and their officials to use the appropriate official channels when raising complaints or seeking clarification on league-related matters.
The sanction adds to the league’s efforts to enforce its disciplinary rules and maintain professional standards among coaches and club officials during the NPFL season
