Finidi George has praised his team’s performance after Rivers United delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Abia Warriors in a Nigeria Premier Football League clash.

The matchday 36 encounter, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, saw the home side take full control after the break following a tightly contested first half.

Despite dominating possession early on, Rivers United struggled to break down Abia Warriors’ defensive setup before halftime, creating only a handful of clear chances.

Finidi admitted his side lacked cutting edge in the opening half, pointing to missed opportunities that could have changed the tempo earlier.

“It was a good game, I would say. In the first half, we didn’t create much. We only had one glaring chance that we missed — a glaring header,” he said after the match.

The breakthrough eventually came five minutes into the second half when Azeez Falolu opened the scoring, setting the tone for a more aggressive and clinical performance.

Timothy Zachaaria and Bello Babatunde added two more goals as Rivers United capitalised on defensive lapses from their opponents to seal a convincing win.

The result strengthens Rivers United’s push in the closing stages of the NPFL season, as the team continues to build momentum ahead of the final fixtures.

Attention now shifts to their next test, with Finidi’s side set to face Wikki Tourists at the New Jos Stadium this weekend.
