NSCDC Arrests Two Suspected Cattle Rustlers in Kano, Recovers Stolen Cow

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two men suspected of cattle rustling while allegedly transporting a stolen cow in a vehicle in Kano State.

The suspects, identified as 45-year-old Jamilu Saadu and 37-year-old Nura Abdullahi, were arrested around 3am on Tuesday at a mining checkpoint along the Tudun Wada–Kiru Road in Rahama Round, Kiru Local Government Area.

The NSCDC Kano Command said its operatives stopped a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE during a routine operation at the checkpoint. A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of a cow tied down and concealed in its rear section.

The Command’s Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, said two other suspects believed to be the main perpetrators escaped after spotting the security personnel. He said efforts were underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The two men arrested remain in custody alongside the recovered exhibits, which include one cow and two machetes. The NSCDC said investigators have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and will work to establish the rightful owner of the animal.

The Corps said the suspects would be prosecuted after the investigation is completed. It maintained that the arrest formed part of its efforts to tackle criminal activities and protect lives and property across Kano State.

The NSCDC also urged residents to provide security agencies with credible and timely information about suspicious activities. It said public cooperation remains important in preventing cattle rustling and other crimes in the state.
