Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has terminated the appointment of Nicholas Odamah as Regent of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, about 11 months after he was appointed to the position.

The state government also announced the restoration of Zaiki Luckman Momodu Odamah III as the traditional ruler of the clan, following a review of the dispute surrounding the traditional leadership.

The development was contained in a letter dated October 20, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

Nicholas Odamah was appointed regent on November 13, 2025, after the state government removed Luckman Momodu Odamah III from the traditional position. At the time, the government said the decision followed a review of circumstances surrounding the ongoing leadership dispute and was intended to promote peace, stability and due process.

Following the appointment, Nicholas Odamah was directed to oversee the affairs of the clan in a custodial capacity pending the determination of the rightful occupant of the throne. He was also expected to ensure compliance with government directives.

However, the latest letter stated that the government reconsidered its earlier decision following appeals from concerned indigenes of Akoko-Edo and confirmation that the traditional leadership dispute was already before a competent court.

The government consequently terminated Nicholas Odamah’s appointment and directed the restoration of the status quo that existed before his appointment as regent.

According to the letter, security agencies had been notified of the decision and directed to maintain peace and order while protecting lives and property in the affected communities.

The state government urged all parties involved in the dispute to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow the judicial process to run its course, reiterating its commitment to fairness, justice and the rule of law.
