Ondo APC Crisis: Ex-Speaker Akindele Warns Aiyedatiwa Against Anti-Party Politics Ahead of 2027

Former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, has warned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against any perceived support for anti-party activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akindele, the first female Speaker of the Ondo Assembly, said reports that some APC members in the state were allegedly working with opposition candidates could damage the party’s unity and weaken its electoral chances.

She cautioned Aiyedatiwa against political calculations that could encourage such activities, describing anti-party moves as a form of “political suicide” that could hurt both the APC in Ondo and President Bola Tinubu’s expected bid for re-election.

The former Speaker also criticised the APC’s reconciliation committee in the state, arguing that its composition could make genuine reconciliation difficult. She questioned how members who were allegedly victims of internal disputes could be expected to lead efforts to reconcile the same people involved in the disagreements.

“The offended could not be expected to seek reconciliation from those who had offended them,” Akindele said.

She called on the national leadership of the APC and the affected candidates to establish separate reconciliation mechanisms capable of addressing the grievances within the party. According to her, failure to resolve the disputes could lead to further divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite her criticism, Akindele appealed to aggrieved APC members to put their differences aside and remain committed to the party. She warned that members who stay in the APC while actively working against it risk damaging their political reputation.

“To stay in a party and work against it is not only unconscionable; it is dishonourable,” she said.

Akindele urged party members to consider their long-term political interests and reputations, stressing that current disagreements should not destroy relationships or undermine the party’s future.

The warning comes as political parties and their members begin positioning for the 2027 general elections, with internal cohesion expected to play a major role in determining the strength of the APC and its candidates in Ondo State.
