Former Minister of Communications Isa Ali Pantami has reportedly given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) three days to publish his name as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reported demand comes amid preparations by political parties for the next election cycle and growing attention to candidate nominations and the publication of official lists.
Pantami’s move places the spotlight on the process through which INEC receives, verifies and publishes candidates submitted by political parties.
Disagreements over candidate lists can arise from disputes surrounding party primaries, nomination procedures, eligibility requirements or competing claims over who was validly selected to represent a party.
However, the precise circumstances behind Pantami’s reported demand, including the basis for the three-day deadline, have yet to be independently confirmed.
INEC’s response to the reported demand is also unclear.
The development comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections, with candidate selection expected to remain a significant issue in several states.
Further clarification from Pantami, the PDP and INEC would help establish the status of the nomination dispute and whether any formal steps have been taken to resolve it.
