
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly operating in Port Harcourt.
The suspects were arrested in the Borikiri area of the state capital following the abduction of a resident near Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area.
According to the police, the victim was kidnapped on September 6 and taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days.
The Command said the victim was released after his relatives reportedly paid N10.3 million in ransom.
Following information about the incident, operatives of the Police Violent Crime Response Unit launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of two suspects.
The suspects were identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby,” from Aguleri in Anambra State, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, also known as “Duff Man,” from Essien Udim in Akwa Ibom State.
Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the kidnapping.
According to the police, the suspects also disclosed that the alleged syndicate has six members and that a white minibus was used during the operation.
The Command said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the remaining members of the alleged syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist the investigation, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
