PRP Questions Who Is Running Nigeria as Tinubu, Shettima Stay Abroad

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has questioned who is currently overseeing Nigeria’s government amid the simultaneous absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from the country.

The party’s National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, raised the issue on Monday in Abuja while speaking at the first national summit of opposition political leaders.

Baba-Ahmed described the simultaneous absence of Nigeria’s two highest-ranking executive officials as unusual and questioned its implications for the day-to-day running of the country.

“Who is in charge now?” the PRP chairman asked, highlighting his concerns over the leadership situation.

He argued that having both the President and Vice President outside Nigeria at the same time was unprecedented, saying it was the first such occurrence in the country’s history.

“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that both the President and Vice President are out of the country at the same time, considering that they are the two highest-ranking officials in the executive arm of government,” Baba-Ahmed said.

The opposition leader also questioned the timing of Tinubu’s latest foreign trip. He linked the journey to expectations surrounding the possible release of documents relating to the President by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Baba-Ahmed alleged that Tinubu’s trip was an emergency move aimed at preventing the release of the documents. The allegation was made at the opposition summit and has not been independently established.
