Retired Police Officers, Families Protest at National Assembly, Demand Exit From Pension Scheme

Retired police officers, alongside their wives and children, on Wednesday marched to the National Assembly, demanding an immediate exit from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The protesters called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, with a video circulating online showing them chanting, “President Tinubu, sign our bill.”

Some of the children who joined the demonstration were seen carrying placards as the protesters pressed for their demands to be addressed.

The protest came a day after military retirees staged a demonstration at the Military Pensions Board office in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, over the formula used to adjust their pensions.

During Tuesday’s protest, the military retirees reportedly barricaded the entrance to the office with canopies and chairs, while armed soldiers prevented them from entering the premises.

The two demonstrations highlight ongoing concerns among retired security personnel over their pension arrangements and the need for authorities to address their grievances.

However, details of the bill the retired police officers want President Tinubu to sign, including its current legislative status, were not immediately available.
