Three CRIN Staff Kidnapped While Inspecting Crops at Ibadan Farm

Three staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) have been kidnapped while inspecting crops on a farm within the institute’s premises in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victims were reportedly abducted while carrying out their duties on the farm. Details about the identities of the staff members and the circumstances surrounding the attack have not yet been disclosed.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying efforts had begun to secure the victims’ safe release and apprehend those responsible.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigations had commenced following the report of the abduction.

In a statement, the police said the three staff members were taken while inspecting crops on a farm located within the institute’s premises.

“Upon receiving the report, the command immediately commenced intensive efforts to secure the safe rescue of the victims and apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement said.

The police also appealed to members of the public who may have useful information about the incident to assist the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.

The abduction adds to security concerns surrounding agricultural communities and workers in Nigeria, where kidnappings have disrupted livelihoods and raised fears about the safety of people carrying out routine activities.

The police have not provided further details about the suspected kidnappers, their whereabouts or whether any contact has been made with them. Efforts to rescue the victims and bring those responsible to justice are ongoing.
