Electricity supply to parts of Nasarawa State has been disrupted after three transmission towers collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the towers collapsed during heavy rain and windy conditions on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, affecting bulk power supply to 33kV feeders serving parts of Keffi and Akwanga.
According to TCN, the affected towers are identified as T78, T79 and T80. The incident occurred at about 4:06pm when the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection.
Following the trip, TCN said it carried out investigations and discovered that the three towers had collapsed. The company subsequently isolated the affected section of the transmission line as a safety measure.
The development has left all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga transmission substations unavailable. Distribution companies are therefore unable to nominate electricity load on the affected feeders until repairs are completed and bulk power supply is restored.
TCN said its engineers have been deployed to the affected location to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and other requirements needed to begin restoration work.
The company did not provide a specific timeline for restoring electricity supply, saying the duration would depend on the outcome of the technical assessment and the repairs required.
TCN apologised to electricity customers affected by the disruption and said it was working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.
