Timi Frank Warns Tinubu Against Undermining Nigeria’s Democracy Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has warned President Bola Tinubu against any alleged attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Frank issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday while reacting to allegations by former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over reported attempts to intimidate opposition parties ahead of the ADC’s planned campaign rally in Sokoto State.

Atiku had accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of recruiting protesters to disrupt the opposition party’s rally. The secret police, however, dismissed the allegation and subsequently ordered an investigation into the claims.

Reacting to the controversy, Frank said Atiku’s allegations reflected what he described as a pattern of political intimidation allegedly being used by the ruling APC against opposition parties across the country.

He cautioned Tinubu against actions that could threaten democratic participation as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.

“Tinubu must not truncate this democracy with his desperation. Despite their denial, the facts on ground have shown clearly that they have a sinister plot against the opposition, and Nigerians will legally resist such moves vehemently,” Frank stated.

His comments come amid growing political activities by opposition parties seeking to challenge Tinubu and the APC in the next general election.

Atiku had also alleged that the President and the ruling party were apprehensive about the possibility of losing the 2027 presidential election.

However, Tinubu’s political camp has dismissed the former vice-president’s claims.

The 2027 presidential contest is expected to feature several political figures, including Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other declared presidential hopefuls.

The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
