Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After Four-Week Working Vacation, Says He Is Ready to Work

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, telling journalists in Lagos that he is healthy, strong and ready to resume his duties.

Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29, after departing Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his working vacation. The Presidency had initially announced a three-week trip but later extended his stay by a few days.

Responding to questions about concerns over his health, Tinubu dismissed the reports and said he remained fit to continue his work.

“Rumours will always emanate from politics. I am hale and strong. I am ready to work. The fact remains that I am here, healthy, sound and ready to go,” he said.

The President departed Abuja on August 30 for London before travelling to Paris. The Presidency described the trip as a working vacation, saying Tinubu remained in contact with officials and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

During his stay in France, Tinubu held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. He also met with businessman Femi Otedola and was involved in discussions linked to investment projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State.

His prolonged absence generated public and political debate, including questions over the length of the trip and his decision not to personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the UN General Assembly during Tinubu’s absence.

The President is expected to remain in Lagos for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1. The State House said he would attend official engagements in the city before returning to Abuja after his political meetings in Lagos.

Tinubu’s return comes as his administration prepares for the Independence Day activities and other official engagements, with the President now expected to resume his schedule in Nigeria after the extended European trip.
