Tinubu to Spend Independence Day in Lagos, Attend Abiola Movie Premiere

President Bola Tinubu will spend Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration in Lagos rather than Abuja, where he is expected to attend a film premiere honouring the winner of the June 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola.

The president’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday ahead of Tinubu’s return from France.

Onanuga said Tinubu was expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29, before attending the movie premiere on Thursday, October 1.

The event will take place at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, as the country marks another anniversary of its independence.

According to the presidential aide, Tinubu will also hold a series of strategic meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in the state.

Onanuga said the meetings would take place over several days as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The president is also expected to address the nation from Lagos as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Day celebration in a low-key manner.
