Two Killed as Speeding Truck, Bus Collide and Burst Into Flames on Sagamu-Ore Expressway

A tragic road crash along the Sagamu-Ore Expressway claimed two lives early Thursday after a speeding truck collided with a commercial bus that burst into flames at Ogbere Junction in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the fatal accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. along the Ogbere/J4 corridor of the busy highway. The crash involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus whose registration number could not be identified.

In a statement, the Ogun State Sector Command Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed that four adult male occupants were involved in the collision. Two of them died at the scene, while the other two escaped without injuries.

According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations indicate that route violation and excessive speeding were responsible for the crash. The impact of the collision reportedly ignited the Peugeot J5 bus, leaving its front section completely destroyed by fire.

Rescue teams from the FRSC arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately began emergency response operations. Traffic was diverted to an alternative carriageway to ease congestion while officials worked to remove the wreckage from the road.

The bodies of the two victims were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a nearby mortuary.

Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, warning that speeding and route violations remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety through continuous enforcement of traffic laws, public awareness campaigns and rapid emergency response to accident scenes.
