Uba Sani Predicts 70–80% of Kaduna Votes for Tinubu in 2027, Rejects Northern Backlash Claims

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has dismissed claims that northern voters are turning against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, predicting that the President could win between 70 and 80 per cent of votes in Kaduna State.

Sani made the prediction during an interview with Channels Television, where he discussed the shifting political landscape and growing competition ahead of the 2027 elections. He argued that reports of widespread opposition to Tinubu in the North are driven largely by political narratives and social media activity rather than what is happening among voters.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will move from 29 percent of votes to 70 to 80 percent,” Sani said. He insisted that Kaduna voters would judge the administration by its performance and the impact of its policies on their daily lives, rather than by political sentiment.

Kaduna was one of the key northern states where former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar defeated Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. Atiku secured 554,360 votes in the state, compared with Tinubu’s 399,293. Sani, however, said the political landscape had changed significantly since then.

The governor pointed to the defection of politicians from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in southern Kaduna, as one factor that could influence the state’s voting pattern in 2027. He also cited federal government projects, including a Federal University of Science and Technology and a federal medical centre in southern Kaduna, as developments that could strengthen support for Tinubu.

Sani said he would not allow personality politics to dominate his campaign, despite political tensions involving former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and other influential figures. He said his focus was on strengthening the APC and taking its message to voters across the state.

The governor also urged Nigerians to scrutinise campaign promises ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that politicians should explain how they intend to finance ambitious promises before asking voters for their support. “You allow him to walk away without asking: how would you do it?” he asked.

Rejecting suggestions of a growing anti-Tinubu mood in the North, Sani said, “No way. It is not possible.” He predicted that the President would perform strongly across the Northwest, Northeast and North-Central regions, while stressing that political success would depend on grassroots mobilisation rather than television appearances or social media campaigns.
