VeryDarkMan Responds to Police Invitation, Says He’ll Present Evidence Only in Court

Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has refused to provide the Nigeria Police Force with evidence immediately after being invited over allegations he made against some police officers.

VeryDarkMan made the comments days after appearing as a panelist at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, where he accused some police personnel of contributing to the country’s worsening security crisis.

During the conference, the activist alleged that some officers stationed at checkpoints on major highways pass information about travellers to kidnappers and bandits, including details that could help criminals track their victims.

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently invited him to substantiate the allegations. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police asked VeryDarkMan to provide evidence supporting his claims.

Rather than submit the evidence directly to the police, VeryDarkMan said he would wait until he is formally charged in court before presenting what he described as proof of his allegations.

Responding in a post on his official Facebook page, he maintained that some police personnel are involved in the insecurity affecting the country. He went further to allege that some members of the force are the “unknown gunmen” responsible for criminal activities.

“On the Nigerian police I SAID WHAT I SAID, you will get your evidence when I am charged to court,” he declared.

VeryDarkMan added: “I repeat THE POLICE ARE THE UNKNOWN gunmen and they aid kidnappings. I’m going to give the police my evidence. I will be charged to court and I will tender the evidence in the court.”

The exchange has intensified attention around the activist’s allegations and the police response, with the key issue now being whether VeryDarkMan will face formal legal action and, if so, what evidence he will present to support his claims.
