The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed a social media report claiming that he endorsed Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate Senator Ishaku Abbo in Adamawa State.
Wike’s position was made public in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, a social media post had attributed comments to the minister urging Adamawa residents to make informed decisions at the ballot, while describing Abbo as the most suitable candidate to lead the state.
However, Wike described the report as fake, insisting that he had neither endorsed Abbo nor expressed support for any Labour Party candidate in Adamawa State.
The statement also clarified that the FCT minister had no relationship with the Labour Party or any of its candidates in the state.
Wike urged residents of Adamawa to disregard the report, stressing that he would personally announce his political preferences rather than allow others to speak on his behalf.
“Whoever he is supporting, he will use his own mouth to say it,” the statement said.
The denial comes amid political discussions ahead of the Adamawa governorship election, with the minister distancing himself from claims that he had publicly backed Abbo’s candidacy.
