The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked Senator Ireti Kingibe, declaring that residents of Abuja have decided to vote her out of the Senate in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the remarks on Monday while speaking at a project commissioning ceremony in Abuja, where he suggested that the senator had lost the support of FCT residents.

The minister urged residents not to insult Kingibe but to bid her farewell ahead of the next election.

“We have decided to tell Ireti Kingibe bye-bye. Don’t abuse her o, just say sister, aunty bye-bye,” Wike said.

He also expressed confidence that Kingibe would not return to the Senate, despite her victory in the 2023 election under the Labour Party platform. The senator has since moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Wike further accused the lawmaker of failing to attract projects to the FCT, claiming that she had not contributed enough to the development of the territory.

According to the minister, rather than collaborating with him to improve Abuja, Kingibe had focused on criticising him through social media and television appearances.

The disagreement between Wike and Kingibe dates back to 2023, with the minister repeatedly accusing the senator of prioritising political disagreements over working with the FCT administration for the benefit of residents.

Their political differences have continued to attract public attention, particularly over issues concerning governance, development projects and representation in the FCT.

As of the time of filing this report, Kingibe had yet to respond to Wike’s latest remarks.
