2027: APC Ogun Aspirant Hunye Questions N50m Nomination Fee After Suspension

Ogun State APC governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye has challenged the circumstances surrounding his suspension from the party, questioning why the APC accepted his N50 million nomination fee and cleared him to participate in its 2027 governorship process.

Hunye raised the issue during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, insisting that the party’s actions appeared inconsistent with its claim that he had already been suspended.

The aspirant said he obtained both the expression of interest and nomination forms, completed the required documentation and went through the party’s screening process. He added that his name appeared as number 52 on the screening list.

Hunye also maintained that he was recognised as a valid candidate during the APC governorship primary held on May 21. He therefore questioned the basis for the party’s subsequent decision to disown his candidacy and suspend him.

The controversy followed the APC’s decision to distance itself from Hunye’s claim that he was the party’s recognised candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election. The party instead reaffirmed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its duly recognised candidate.

Hunye said the timeline surrounding his alleged suspension raised serious questions. He claimed the APC said he was suspended on April 7, yet accepted payment from him and issued the nomination documents weeks later.

“I bought the N50 million nomination form and was cleared for the screening,” Hunye said.

“The first thing they said was that I had been suspended. They said I was suspended on April 7. How can you suspend me on April 7 and, on April 28, collect money from me and give me a form?”

He said he had documentary evidence to support his participation in the process, including the receipt for the nomination fee and his appearance on the screening list, leaving the dispute over the APC’s 2027 Ogun governorship ticket unresolved
