A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Yusuf Abdullahi Itas, has withdrawn from the race for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency seat in the 2027 general election.
Itas, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), announced his decision in a letter dated October 5, 2026, addressed to the party’s state chairman.
In the letter titled “Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” the lawmaker formally notified the party that he would no longer contest the election.
Itas described his decision as “entirely voluntary and personal” but did not disclose any further reason for stepping down from the race.
The lawmaker thanked the APM leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to represent the party, while also appreciating residents of Itas/Gadau for their support and encouragement during his tenure.
Itas currently serves as Chairman of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Petitions and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
His withdrawal comes less than three weeks after the Assembly’s Chief Whip, Musa Wakili Nakwada, also withdrew from the 2027 race under the APM platform. Nakwada represents Bogoro Constituency and announced his decision in September.
Both lawmakers have not indicated in the reports reviewed that they intend to contest the same seats under another political party, leaving their next political steps unclear.
Itas’ decision means the APM will now need to address the vacancy created by the withdrawal of its incumbent candidate for the Itas/Gadau constituency ahead of the 2027 State House of Assembly election.
