2027: Peter Obi Vows No New Roads, Buildings Until Existing Infrastructure Is Fixed

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has promised that his administration would halt the construction of new roads and government buildings until existing infrastructure across Nigeria is repaired.

Obi made the pledge on Thursday during an exclusive interview with Arise Television, outlining what he described as a more disciplined approach to managing public resources if elected president in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

The former Anambra State governor said his government would prioritise fixing infrastructure already in place rather than committing funds to new projects while existing roads and buildings remain in poor condition.

“We’ll fix the existing roads before building new ones,” Obi said, stressing that the policy would apply to government construction projects.

He also said there would be no new extensions or additional buildings for the president or the First Lady under his administration, arguing that government should make better use of existing facilities.

“We’re not going to start building new extensions for the president or for the wife or for anybody. We will fix what is existing,” he said.

Obi further stated that his administration would not embark on the construction of new guest houses or other government buildings as part of the proposed infrastructure policy.

The pledge forms part of Obi’s wider campaign message ahead of the 2027 election, with the NDC candidate positioning efficient use of public funds and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure as priorities for his proposed administration.
