Afrobeats megastar Davido has officially joined the Recording Academy, the body behind the Grammy Awards, as a voting member — a milestone he described as a “gamechanger” for his career.
The Nigerian singer, who has become one of Africa’s most influential music exports, will now play a direct role in shaping the outcome of the world’s most prestigious music honours.
“I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season,” Davido said in a video message announcing the news. “I am honoured to join the prestigious Recording Academy and look forward to voting.”
Davido’s membership follows a period of growing global recognition for Afrobeats. He earned his first three Grammy nominations at the 2024 awards, though he lost in all categories. In 2025, his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay, Sensational, was nominated for Best African Music Performance but was edged out by Tems’ Love Me Jeje.
With this development, Davido joins a select group of African artists with voting rights at the Recording Academy, further cementing his influence on the international music stage.
