Kwankwaso Dismisses Reports of Defection Letter to APC as ‘False’

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied claims that he and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf have formally indicated interest in rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speculation, which gained traction online this week, suggested that the NNPP leader had submitted a letter of intent to the APC. But in a statement on Friday, Kwankwaso branded the reports as fake.

“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country,” he said.

“We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party. The public is therefore advised to stay informed of any further information regarding our matter through the established official channels.”

Kwankwaso, a former Defence Minister and two-term Kano governor, remains one of the most influential figures in northern politics. His denial comes amid heightened speculation over possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
